Moving to a New City: St. Catharines

Here I am in a new city, new apartment, just graduated the Digital Photography program at Niagara College, starting my new “adult life”. As expected it’s both terrifying and exciting.

Actually I had no idea I was moving to St. Catharines until the last week of school. As far as my plans went I was moving back to Kingston to continue my company, Lensful Photography, there. I remember calling up my mom a few days before the Photography Gala (end of year show) to tell her the news, I was surprised she didn’t cry but she was super supportive and equally surprised.

So why St. Catharines? This question I’ve probably gotten a billion times in the last 3 weeks.

It’s a fair question; why move to a new city with no family, basically no friends and I have only passed through twice in my years of college in the area.  Well, honestly I moved because it all fell into place. As soon as the thought in my head popped up that I didn’t need to move home I felt, and I know this sounds silly and dramatic, but a calling. I kept getting signs that this is where I’m supposed to be from the first place I looked at being perfect in every way, to job opportunities, to meeting new people from St. Kitts which I just found out is a nickname for St. Catharines (shout out to snapchat geofilters lol). And I don’t really know what it means, if I’m meant to be here for a year or many, but it feels good. I’m just putting my trust in God, and believing that the best is ahead of me.

New City

As expected it’s both terrifying and exciting.

So let’s talk future. We are all blessed with summer weather so I’m SO PUMPED to shoot outside. The other day Jay took me to some really cool spots (go check out he’s sick work: click here ) and I’m dying to shoot some portraits. So if you’re in the area hit me up! I might use your lovely faces.

I’m also applying for funding and mentorship since I’m basically starting from scratch being a new city and all.

And lastly at the moment I’m in the process of working with some really cool local Niagara businesses, but nothing I can’t talk about quitee yet but I’m excited for that.
