Winter is often a hard time for lot of people, including myself. Working a 9-5 job means coming home in the dark and cold and it is overall depressing. So when my boyfriend, Jared, told me that a few of our photography friends were planning to Algonquin Provincial Park, I jumped right on that. Heck yeah, get me out of here!
I’m originally from northern Ontario (Thunder Bay, to be exact) and I found the drive up an almost familiar feeling. The curving stretch marked roads, crossed legged in the passenger seat, watching towns turn into fields and eventually woods and lastly to snow-covered pines.
We met our friend at the West Gate Entrance and the first “shoot” was of JR’s lovely model, his new Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I personally only got a few shots of it. The guys seem to be really into it, but I don’t know, I think I’ll stick with portraits.
One of the coolest (Ha, a pun) locations at Algonquin was actually just on the side of the road! Along the road, there is snow and ice covered rocks. The red stone peeking through made the perfect backdrop! One thing I learnt on this trip is that it is possible to use my camera with mittens on which is good to know. Haha!
But seriously it was so cold!
Staying bundled up is a must!
Another stop during our adventuring was the Visitors Centre. It had a beautiful lookout to the park and some bird feeders. We also were able to warm up a bit inside.
The thing I loved about being about to shoot with other photographers, is not only having a fun time but being able to learn and share photography tricks and trying new things. What I also find amazing is seeing the photos afterwards, and how each of us saw Algonquin a bit differently. And don’t worry, I will be linking their Instagrams/Facebook Pages at the end of this blog post!
Oh, here’s a little bird that came to say hello (which may or may not have been because we had food for him)!
I also had a bird land on my hat, but I don’t have a selfie of that, unfortunately. BUT Jared did get a photo ( Link! Link! Link! )
Other highlights include: a lot more birds, slamming on the breaks to get a photo of a sunset, a sighting of a cute little martin, heated seats and timbits.
A few more stops in the park and a couple running noses later, we found ourselves starving and ready to go home. :)
It was such an amazing time and I’m happy I had the chance to go! Please take a moment to check out mine and my friends work!
